Meet the Staff

Angela Andersen

Director at the Field Station

Many of you know her- but in case you don’t, Angela is the creative genius behind the field station- working from concept design with the Mayor back in 2018 to construction with our DPW crew and now implementation of programming and projects with all of our wonderful partners.

Angela has been working in the environmental field for 35+ years and has been with Long Beach Township for 15 years- starting in recycling – she is a certified recycling professional and certified sustainable resource management professional- and teaches at Rutgers in those certification courses-

She established the sustainability effort at the township- certifying the town with Sustainable Jersey and gaining several Enviromental awards for the town and for her work she was recognized as USEPA Environmental Champion in 2015.

Angela has a BA in Environmental Studies from Stockton College (now university) and an MA from Antioch University- Seattle.

She has worked for the American Littoral Society and NJ Department of Environmental Protection- and wrote for the Sandpaper for many years, is published in several magazines and has lead kayak tours in the bay for decades.

She produced a film in 2017 called The Oyster Farmers– about the oyster renaissance in our bay- available on Amazon-

Fun facts about Angela- she has an adorable 6 month old golden retriever puppy named Nellie- who we all love at the field station

Angelas hobbies include kayaking gardening, writing, cooking and snow skiing

She will celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary with her husband Jimmy-   in September- they live in North Beach Haven and they have two amazing sons- fourth generation baymen Liam (23) he is an oyster farmer with Barnegat Oyster Collective and Nolan (20) he is a waiter at Stefanos and works for a company called Aqua Traction- installing boat mats

Family and friends are dear to Angela- and her home is the central gathering space — so when you come to the field station– it’s like walking into Angelas home away from home- she is always ready to welcome you and have a chat

Grab a seat-enjoy the programs and let her know if you have ideas for future programs or events at the field station!
