•  First town on LBI to ban the releasing of balloons.
•  Sustainable Jersey Certified Community at Bronze Level.
•  Founding member of the Shell Recycle Program
•  The only municipality in NJ to actively support shell recycling.  In 2020, LBT received the DEP Recycling Award for Leadership.
•  Established the LBT Field Station to be a center of research and information for LBI & Southern Ocean County
